So what does the nation's media icon think provides quality to its viewers? Well if there's no major snooker championship on, then 6 hours a day of darts will fit the bill.
What can better serve the binge-drinking society than seeing people enjoying sport as it's meant to be enjoyed, with a beer in the hand, both by participant and viewer.
BBC would probably say "they're giving the public what they want", - that old media trick to justify any output they provide. Like we don't know that the public will develop interest in whatever is put before them, while the media has no responsibilty to guide the public.
Let's face it, it's a very cheap programme for the BBC, - a few cameras, commentators, it runs for days, and saves having to think about what else to present for 6 hours a day for a week. So it helps booze up Britain even more, the BBC can always blame the government.
