BBC Production of Diana Concert Criticized

I didn't see it, but while listening to LBC this morning I heard Nick Ferrari criticize the BBC for several production flaws and several listeners called in to concur. According to him.

"Elsewhere in the show we spoke about the Concert for Diana. Did you see it? We wanted to know what was happening backstage with the production. Some acts didn’t have their microphones switched on and Ricky Gervais had to excruciatingly fill three minutes without any material! "

If anybody saw this concert and wishes to comment on BBC coverage of this event it would be appreciated.

What a shame that the BBC seems to have given the job or putting together the Diana Concert at Wembley today over to some work experience students.

For some bizarre reason, the sound kept going dead between acts (with no voice over to explain), highlights of previous acts kept being cut short, video sequences of good deeds and memories of Diana seemed to be edited in to the gaps rather poorly whilst the sound levels of the artists performing was all wrong. And that's not even mentioning the awful Fearne Cotton (don't get me started there !)

Am I the only person who thought that the instruments kept drowning out all the singers voices ? The George Michael concert two weeks ago from Wembley seemed to get the sound levels right, so why couldn't they do that tonight ?

What a shame as the performers were a really good mix of new and old, varying styles and all of them did a good job. It's a shame the BBC were not up to it today.

Concert for Diana… what a shambles!
I didn’t intend to watch today’s Concert for Diana at Wembley Stadium, but my Mum and sister had it on, so I ended up catching bits of it.

Eventually it became unmissable.

Technically, this was the biggest shambles I think I’ve ever seen on British television. Constant sound dips (played out on various radio stations as well), massive delays, embarrassing performances from the likes of P Diddy, and a completely rubbish climax.

Many of the faults seemed to be the BBC’s fault – especially the sound dips. Claudia Winkleman and Jamie Theakston seemed to be on a different planet to the rest of the production: they’d simultaneously announce different bands were about to play, and sometimes both got it wrong.

Let’s hope they get it right for next week’s Live Earth, also at Wembley, or their reputation for live events will be shot to pieces.
