So the start of the week and another reason to complain. First of all I am no fan of the EDL. However following Paxman's bizzare interview which would seem more at home in the playground than on BBcs premier news program I feel obliged to complain. The whole interview as Lennon stated is based on speculation. This seems to be a growing trend with reporters asking other reporters what they think someone will do rather than just giving us the facts and letting us make our own minds up.
Initially the BBc show a representative from Searchlight who are far from lilly white themselves and obviously have an agenda of their own. Then the whole interview seems to revolve around what was said or not on facebook. This is more the kind of thing you would expect to hear on Jeremy Kyle.
So that complaint will be E-mailed art some time today.

Right sent now. I am no fan of the EDL but I really think the Newsnight article on the alleged links between the homicidal murderer Breivik and the EDL was for want of a better word appaling.
Firstly both searchlight and demos who you featured are certainly not independent and they both have their own agendas
Secondly the interview the main "evidence" appeared to be based on what someone had said on facebook, this is the kind of thing you would expect to see on the Jeremy Kyle show. The constant interuptions by Jeremy Paxman were I thought rude and bullyiing and certainly didn't contribute to the viewer being able to form a view on the situation.

Well done Carl. Paxman shows himself up as a complete buffoon. He's all you said and more. Full credit to the EDL guy who did brilliantly against his foul agenda. Here's a link to anybody wishing to see this programme again. It runs for the first 21 minutes of the programme. It's only available to listen on this site for the next 5 days. (Update - Found a YouTube extract of this segment)

So this is the reply Thanks for contacting us.
I understand that you were unhappy with the interview with Stephen Lennon.
Newsnight appreciates that any appearance by an organisation like the English Defence League has the potential to be uncomfortable for viewers. Indeed there were a number of complaints before the item was even broadcast. But the programme has always provided and will continue to provide a space to hear controversial opinions.
On Monday, news organisations were trying to establish the truth of the links between Anders Behring Breivik and the English Defence League. Newsnight had new evidence of those links and felt completely justified in putting them to the leader of the EDL, Stephen Lennon. Whilst the programme notes that there were some concerns that Jeremy Paxman was too aggressive in his interview, this is not a suggestion they can agree with.
I’d like to assure you that I’ve registered your concerns on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers. The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
The logs are also published on the BBC's intranet site, so are available for all BBC staff to view. All feedback we receive, whether positive or negative is always appreciated. We're committed to developing better links with you, our audience, to further enhance our understanding of your viewing and listening needs.
Thanks once again for taking the time to contact us.
So I think the point missed is that Searchlight and Demos are Marxists with an agenda and what's on farcebook in't always true. Still it did make me laugh which is no mean feat this time in the morning and much better than the BBcs usual comedy output..Yes My family I mean you and all the others.

Well done Carl - nice use of the Poll too.
The key to see the bias of the BBC is in their opening line; Newsnight appreciates that any appearance by an organisation like the English Defence League has the potential to be uncomfortable for viewers. Indeed there were a number of complaints before the item was even broadcast. But the programme has always provided and will continue to provide a space to hear controversial opinions.
Since it's hard to know exactly what the EDL stand for since they receive so little neutral air-time, it is presumptuous of the BBC to make that claim. I for one am uncomfortable seeing Muslims with their own agenda being given a free ride at the BBC. It is precisely because the left-wing media treats as racists those who don't see a multicultural society working where there are those who do not share similar goals, that the likes of Breivik appear. If people can't openly discuss their genuine fears and concerns, then society becomes totalitarian and repressive - something that MUST be fought.
The BBC don't see that it is their view that is 'controversial'.

Controversial isn't the word for it, Teddy.
We are getting a lot from the b-bbc recently about 'Christian extremists' and comparing them to Islamic terrorists.
Islamic terrorists usually go on their murdering sprees invoking the name of their god, ie, shouting 'allah akba'.
How many of these so called Christian fundamentalists go around killing whilst shouting 'Jesus Christ'?
Christianity urges it's followers to go in peace.
Islam urges it's followers to go and kill.
End of.

I agree THR, 'controversial' is a soft description of what the BBC are truly about. I only used the term as this is how they described those who disagree with their agenda.
