I have been interested in the past few days by the BBC coverage of the events in Gaza. The subtlety of the language used is interesting. When reporting Hamas press releases or interviews the verb used is usually “announced” whereas Israeli press releases are characterised as “claimed”.
That cleverly puts the hearer or viewer in the mindset that Hamas tell the truth but Israel’s statements are of doubtful veracity.

Well noted Charm - an apt observation and distinction. The only reason I haven't covered BBC's biased coverage of this conflict is because BBC Watch is doing a very thorough job of it. The exception was this thread on the rockets found at an UNRWA school.Even today listening to BBC R4 news, they spoke of Gazans fleeing to take refuge in many of these schools, but omitted to mention the discovery of rockets that had been found on one of their premises. But then this would give the listener a truthful impression of what this conflict and issues are about, which the BBC is not interested in doing. No doubt when Israel is forced to target an ambulance in Gaza, because Hamas terrorists are using it to fire on Israeli troops, no context will be provided either by the BBC.
