Typical BBC hypocrite. They have no problem telling us how we should open our borders and allow all and sundry to enter without let or hindrance, no matter how our 'peace and quiet' will be affected. Even to the point that we should open our own homes to take in the supposed 'refugees' from Syria without consideration for how that would affect our lives.
But when it comes to allowing new homes to be built adjoining their property to be able to house the huge increase in population, suddenly it will affect their peace and quiet, and they do their best to stop it.
I hope they do stop building luxury flats, and put up a refugee camp there instead. It's called Karma.

BBC newsreader Fiona Bruce is fighting plans to build a four-storey block of flats at the end of her garden, claiming the development will ruin her 'treasured oasis of peace'.
The broadcaster, who lives in a leafy suburb of north London with her husband and two children, has written two letters urging the local council to refuse the planning application for the luxury flats.
As well as 'compromising the privacy' of her property, Ms Bruce said the planned construction would create a 'noise disturbance' and would increase the risk of flooding in her garden.
Developers have applied for permission to knock down an existing home on an adjoining road and replace it with a block of two-bedroom and four-bedroom flats.
Plans filed with the council indicate that the gardens of the proposed flats would share a boundary with Ms Bruce's plot.
A similar-size of home in the leafy suburb is currently on the market for £14million.
In her first letter to officials, the 51-year-old said she wanted to 'object to this application in the strongest possible terms.'
She said the block of flats would compromise her and her neighbours' privacy and would mean her garden is 'overlooked in an oppressive and intrusive manner'.
She wrote: 'Works of the scale proposed in this application will horribly disrupt the peace and tranquillity of my home and garden (as well as that of my neighbours) for a considerable time.
'I urge you to turn down this application. I honestly believe it would ruin my treasured oasis of peace and privacy.'
Ms Bruce, who presents the BBC's News at Ten, followed-up with a second letter, saying that 'two extremely disturbing elements' of the plan had been brought to her attention.
She said that architects and builders had noted that there would be an increased risk of flooding and that her lawn 'is already badly affected', with plants previously dying because of too much water.
She wrote: 'Any increase in flooding from a building situated higher up the hill above me would render my garden unusable in anything but the most prolonged dry spell.
'My children would be unable to play in it. A huge source of joy in my family would be removed at a stroke.'
She added that she was concerned about plans for a 'large condenser plant' to be situated at the opposite end of the site from the flats, which would be close to her garden wall.
She wrote: 'Presumably it is sited that far so that residents of the new flats will not be bothered by the noise.
'What about me? What about my family? The condenser will be about 5 foot from my garden. And about 15 foot from my garden office.'
She said there will still be a 'distressing level of noise' and that even the 'best acoustic shed' could not cancel-out the outdoor sound completely.
She added: 'I cannot put into words how distressed I am by this. My home and garden are my sanctuary.
'This proposed condenser is horrifying to me and would utterly ruin my enjoyment of my garden. And when I have my back doors open onto the garden, I will hear the condenser unit in my house.
'There will be no escape from it. I ask you in the strongest possible terms to refuse this application.'
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said the flats were 'entirely out of keeping' for the area.
She said: 'Fiona Bruce is entirely correct in what she says - the flats are four-storeys high and in an area known for its lovely Victorian homes, not horrid new-build flats.
'If anyone knows what fits and what doesn't, it's the presenter to the Antiques Roadshow - this development would be far too modern for around here.'

Finally, works of the scale proposed in this application will horribly disrupt the peace and tranquillity of my home and garden (as well as that of my neighbours) for a considerable time. I urge you to turn down this application. I honestly believe it would ruin my treasured oasis of peace and privacy.

I have registered my objection to this proposal earlier. But since then two extremely disturbing elements of the proposal have been drawn to my attention.
1. That even by the architects''/builders'' own assessment there is an increased risk of flooding due to the proposed new building. In the winter, my lawn is badly affected by flooding as it is. Plants have died because they are too long submerged underwater.
Any increase in flooding from a building situated higher up the hill above me would render my garden unusable in anything but the most prolonged dry spell. My children would be unable to play in it. A huge source of joy in my family would be removed at a stroke.
2. The proposal contains very sketchy details about a large condenser plant to be situated above ground at the furthermost end of the garden away from the proposed new building.
Presumably it is sited that far so that residents of the new flats will not be bothered by the noise.
What about me? What about my family? The condenser will be about 5 foot from my garden. And about 15 foot from my garden office.
Even in some sort of acoustic shed, there will still be a distressing level of noise. In my experience (and I work with professional sound engineers) even the best acoustic shed can reduce a noise but not deaden it altogether.
I cannot put into words how distressed I am by this. My home and garden are my sanctuary. [This] is a wonderfully peaceful part of London and the greenery and the peace and quiet are what make it so special.
