The BBC is running a 'consultation' asking for public opinion on the way they currently run their campaign to collect licence fees. The very way they word this 'consultation' shows it to be nothing more than a scam. They present the picture they want you to see then word the question to get an initial 'yes' from those replying. If I had the time or inclination I would trawl through it and copy it here, but you can view it on the above link.
One of the paragraphs, and questions they ask has this as the preamble: Why run a consultation?
The BBC Trust is the highest authority at the BBC. We are the new, independent governing body representing the interests of licence fee payers. One of our new responsibilities is ensuring that the arrangements for the collection of the licence fee are "efficient, appropriate and proportionate".
In other words, is the BBC doing a good job in ensuring that everyone who is required by law to pay the licence fee knows they have to pay and when; that the arrangements for collecting the fee are efficient and easy to use; [glow=red,2,300]and the right balance is struck between encouraging payment and deterring evasion?[/glow]
I have highlighted the last sentence, and would draw your attention to the phrase 'encouraging payment'. This embodies the great misconception that the present day BBC has. Rather than providing a service that the public would be happy to support, it launches a mafia style protection racket to tell you what will happen if you don't pay up.
Should you consider voicing your opinion on this consultation, I would advise you to avoid using 'yes' as the first word. I guarantee that any comments whereby you qualify it afterwards be ignored. The BBC will merely use it as propaganda to justify the tactics they have been using until now. If this 'consultation' would show anything different, it will be buried.
That's who the BBC is!
