Andrew Montford - Bishop Hill of the BishopHill.Blog and author of the excellent Hockey stick Illusion; will be on Newsnight tonight discussing the floods in Pakistan and the heatwave in Russia, both caused by the same blocking of the jet stream. Maybe the BBC are changing and are giving both sides a chance to have their say...... I doubt it but I'd like to be proved wrong!

A quarter of Newsnight given over to express opinions that basically add up to 'we don't know for sure what if any effect is caused by human influence in this weather pattern'. Talk about dragging out a topic. If I had the pain threshold to actually transcribe what the Indian pro-AGW guy said it could probably be used in a cartoon to personify 'bore'. As it is, I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to it again though.
The the BBC devoted a third of the programme to Muslim women giving their views of the Niqab amidst artsy photography and music.
All I can say is I feel about Newsnight as I feel about discos, once is enough - purely to know what's going on in society. I wouldn't punish myself again with it though, but to anyone who wants to judge BBC output for themselves, it's worth a scrutiny.
