Could there be a connection between this news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world...fic/1107470.stm The BBC's international television channel, BBC World, has been granted an independent licence to broadcast in China for the first time.and this? news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4318551.stm#graphChina's influence on the world is seen as positive by more people than is the case for the US or Russia, according to a new BBC World Service poll. Why do you think the BBC included Lebanon in its poll? Notice how they not only promote China, but stick it to the US at the same time. BBC bias in full action. But this is what China is paying for, and our independant impartial BBC is only too happy to oblige.

The China poll is quite ridiculously ahistorical. There could be a rule which says that the more impact countries have on other countries, the less popular they are. That the Beeb fails to give the context of Chinese isolationism (except in the most cursory and irrelevant way possible) is extraordinary. Everything about the article is shallow and half-baked, and one is led to ask the question, why? Why does this article meet the standards of those inset articles in local newspapers where they say what a great job the local water authorities have done in updating the water cleaning system- and then you see that the article is marked 'advert'.
Undoubtedly some negotiations had to have taken place before the Beeb got its entree to China. What was said at them can only be speculated but I think you're onto something.

Welcome Ed Probably it was along the lines of "see how we can inprove your image as the largest Western media organisation with the status of impartial and independant - after all, look what we've done for all those totalitarian Muslim states".
