Reading the story about the 'reconciliation' between Hamas and Fatah today, I was struck by the omission in the article to mention that Hamas refuses to recognize the existence of Israel. It is really impossible to understand events there without this basic underlying fact, and it's clear to see that the BBC is doing its best to neutralize the menace of Hamas by omitting this detail.
However, if one runs a search on the BBC website with the words 'hamas israel right to exist', a lot of articles appear, and the introductions to each would indicate that it included this reference.
Some examples:
So it's clear that anybody originally writing the article realised the importance of adding this information. It is just as clear that an editor decided to remove this reference as if you read any of the articles above, this fact is omitted.
