How does the BBC measure up to its charter?

For the first time in history, the BBC will be selling advertising space on their website. The BBC Trust

approved this move.

Will this compromise their already tarnished idea of 'impartial and unbiased'?
You bet it will!
You'll notice on the editors blog that nobody has made this connection, they just want you to understand it's for financial reasons.

At present, the BBC is only answerable to itself in deciding its standards and coverage. How does it measure up to what you consider good quality, and impartial and unbiased reporting as required by its charter? All TV viewers in the UK are forced by law to pay for this 'service'.
