Cost-cutting BBC's two thousand managers
The BBC has almost two thousand staff with the word "manager" in their job title, it has emerged, almost half of all of its job titles.
The broadcaster has some 4,500 different job titles despite cutting thousands of roles and selling offices to save £670 million.
It is likely even more employees at the Corporation are ranked and paid as managers but are not defined as such in their job description, according to the Daily Mail.
The BBC, which has often been criticised for its profligacy and number of managers earning more than £100,000, also employs 191 members of staff who are described as advisers.
A spokesman for the broadcaster, which is moving from its west London base to Salford, said the term "manager" was used to describe a level of experience rather than staff who managed teams.
But one insider told the Mail: "Some of the titles you come across are just absurd and are beyond belief.
"There always seems to be a lot of managers swilling around - I am not sure how busy they are."
Among the roles recently advertised were client solutions executive, decision support manager, thematic adviser for governance and change management lead.
