www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/06/nlyons06.xmlGordon Brown is hand picking his team and placing them in high powered positions for his up-coming prime-ministerial position. How f***** scary is that? This is borderline a dictatorship. And guess what great impartial TV service has just dumped a great big fat Gordon Brown cuckoo in the nest? Apparently the guy knows nothing about broadcasting. So he should get along famously with the rest of the BBC staff then.

The fact that his appointment, if on the basis of closeness or previous ties with Brown, will highlight any bias in future BBC coverage of the prospective PM, which might raise more license fee payers eyebrows than otherwise. Obviously time will tell, but to start optimistically about his appointment, in a related Telegraph article they write the following which shows Grade does possess morality, if not shared by Brown himself. ...Sir Michael, a professor of public policy at Birmingham University, recently completed a three-year review into changes in the council tax system. But his proposals - recommending an upper band of council tax for homes worth more than £2 million and a low band for the cheapest homes - was shelved by Mr Brown. Conservative culture spokesman Hugo Swire said his closeness with Brown would "add to the concerns about how this Government has politicised the appointments process".
Paul McLaughlin, national officer of the National Union of Journalists, added: "The fact that Sir Michael has no significant experience in broadcasting is a concern, as is his perceived closeness to the Government.
"We hope he will protect the BBC from itself and from outside attacks and we will resist any moves to slash jobs or cut back on quality."
