It was instructive to see the BBC response to the debacle of Thursday's (15.xi.12) elections.
BBC Wales news reported that only one of the four Welsh force areas had elected a Labour Party candidate with a disapproving voice. It continued "Labour want to know why they only got one [of the posts]" as though this were the largest problem; forget the turn out so low that Malpas and Tyr y Berth had polling stations open for 15 hours without a single vote being cast.
Then Newsnight gave its usual balanced report: it interviewed two candidates, one winner and one loser. The winner was the Labour commissioner for Greater Manchester (Tony Lloyd - an ex-MP in the area and Labour Minister) and this was "balanced" by an interview with a losing candidate - the Labour candidate for the post in Humberside (Lord Prescott - an ex-MP in the area and Labour Minister)!
