The US Department of State has published the International Religion Freedom report for 2012.It shows the bigotries perpetrated by the various countries round the world - by whom, and against whom. For those of us who don't rely on the likes of the BBC for following world events, we are aware for the most part of these goings on. This is also how we know better to judge the BBC output or omissions in regard to these incidents and the mindset behind them. The BBC has an article related to this report Bigotry against Jews and Muslims on the rise, says USMy suggestion is for anybody to read the main page of the report first, then read the BBC article. Consider what the report shows about the countries indicated, and the mindset behind the actions described, and the import of this to the values that we uphold as human beings and in our society, for which it is part of our foundation. Then ask yourself does the BBC article, supposedly a world class media organisation, funded by our society to inform and educate, really present anything close to what this report shows? Is the BBC offering a representative evaluation of what's contained therein? If you were a journalist writing an article on this report, how would you have written it differently. When you figure that out - you'll see for yourself the clear agenda of the BBC - by what they show, and what they omit.

You know what I wanna say about this... bunk, just words with respect to the current US governmental hierarchy. But it's a sound read and I have no doubt those responsible are sincere and as accurate as can be hoped for coming from our government employees. Btw I tried your BBC link and it's not working, but that doesn't surprise (meaning maybe they had second thoughts) I read another article just recently about the percentage of a nation's citizens not wanting those from another race as neighbors. It's not a sound reference when making judgement of racism if you consider the feelings of the Jews of Israel but even they fared much better then many others.

I fixed the link to the BBC webpage Steevo, you should be able to see it fine now.
Your chart doesn't tell much without knowing if the 'other race or group' was specified or not. It would be interesting to know who specified a particular race, and what that was, and who made it any other.
I can pretty much guess as to which nations chose the latter though.
Far as I can see Israel is in the 15%-19.9% group. Considering 20% of the population is Arab that could account for it.

Yeah you're right, I've read some commentary on it and rethought the implications and it's not a good map to really understand bigotry. Not at all. I didn't realize my own narrow mind or maybe anti-bigotry bigotry as a man living in a highly diverse culture albeit not perfect. There can be a racist/nationalist superiority to varying degrees but also understandable reasons why people in one nation do not want those from another as immediate neighbors. The simple question, by itself, is grossly inadequate.

I didn't hear any BBC broadcast on this story but I have read the article they have on the topic. Venner suicide at Notre-Dame 'political' - Le PenThey do state in the article Mr Venner condemned both same-sex marriage and Islamist influence in France in writings before his death. Just hours earlier, Mr Venner had bitterly criticised the same-sex marriage act on his blog, saying it was as "disastrous" for France as the prospect of Islamist rule. But they don't attempt to explain the basis for his thinking in any way. To be honest I don't think they can. They've gotten so used to dismissing concerns by those in relation to both the Islamic mindset in our society and the disintegration of family values by putting gay marriage on a par with it, that they have no way to think about the relevant points. For them, it's right wing, and a foreign concept. it really shows how unbalanced the BBC truly is because if they were doing their job properly they would understand both left and right viewpoints and the merits to both. I see in the BBC article about the Stockholm riots they also avoid revealing the mindset behind it. We know from experience already who is responsible for these riots whenever the BBC fails to indicate it out loud. Reading this sentence confirms it - More than 80% of Husby's 12,000 or so inhabitants are from an immigrant background, and most are from Turkey, the Middle East and Somalia. There is an irony to the timing of Venner's suicide occurring at the same time as these riots because it shows his concerns are valid. It is not about foreigners, but about those whose thinking continues to be foreign to those values we uphold. It is not multiculturalism when a particular mindset is incapable of integration, any more than purposefully injecting a virus into our bodies would make us healthier.
