Consider the mindset of the insidious director general of the BBC. So aware of how the BBC propaganda brainwashes the public, he feels by stating something that is truly not his decision, it will carry some weight.
If he was truly convinced of any of the BS he spouts as fact he wouldn't fear alternatives.
Well past the time he should discover just how many UK citizens really think of the BBC as 'family'. Let's see how they survive being privatised. They will either go the way of the Guardian or be forced to put their house into proper order.

BBC licence fee 'ain't broke', says director-general
BBC will not consider alternatives to the licence fee, director-general Tony Hall says as he claims public consider the corporation to be "almost a member of their family"

The licence fee system “ain’t broke” and doesn’t need fixing, the BBC director-general has said as he ruled out all alternative funding models.
Lord Hall said viewers and listeners consider the BBC to be “almost a member of their family” and do not want it to become a subscription service.
The corporation will begin negotiations with the government next year over how the BBC should be funded from 2017 onwards.
Sajid Javid, the Culture Secretary, has indicated that he is prepared to consider a radical rethink of the licence fee, telling the Telegraph in May that many families find the current £145.50 fee “a lot of money”.
Appearing in the House of Commons before the Culture Select Committee, Lord Hall said: “We believe it’s a system that ain’t broke.
“For 40p a day, everybody in this country can enjoy first class programmes and services. We are not in competition for revenue with Sky, ITV or Channel 4.
“What you get back from that is a broadcasting ecology that is the envy of the world.
“Do we think it needs amendments and modification? Yes. But if you get away from the licence fee and go down the subscription model, we will change the nature of what the BBC is about: brilliant programmes for everyone.”
One mooted alternative is a hybrid model in which some services, such as BBC Four and the iPlayer, would be put behind a paywall.
But Lord Hall said such a system would prevent viewers from stumbling across enriching programmes.
As an example he cited The Duchess of Malfi, a BBC Four production staged in Shakespeare’s Globe and starring Gemma Arterton.
The programme “allowed people who live in Skye or Scunthorpe, rich or poor” to see drama broadcast from one of the country’s most iconic theatres, he said.
He added: “People feel passionately about the BBC almost as if it’s a member of their family.”
The BBC would like the licence fee to be extended to cover those who access it via the iPlayer catch-up service.
James Purnell, the BBC’s director of strategy and a former Culture Secretary under Labour, also appeared before the committee.
Asked if the BBC was prepared to discuss alternatives to the licence fee, Purnell replied: “It’s not that there won’t be any discussion. We are confident the licence fee is the best way of funding the BBC, and that makes us very open to discussion.”
But he said: “We are not going to go through the pretence of examining it. Where we believe something is right, it would be slightly pointless for us to go away and pretend the arguments aren’t strong.”
Over half of the population supports the licence fee, Purnell added, claiming there has also been “a big decrease” in support for subscription.
On the subject of regulation – and whether the BBC Trust should be replaced by Ofcom – the BBC executives suggested that self-regulation should continue.
Lord Hall said: “I think there is a lot to recommend the current system.
“If you replace it with something else, you have to ask the question: do you get a body that can regulate an organisation with £3.6 billion of public spending? Though it’s not for us to say how we should be regulated.”
