Just wanted to point out 18 Doughty Street's latest campaign video will be against the licence fee.
www.18doughtystreet.com/campaigns_hq/6/14
It's an open-source process whereby people offer ideas for what the video could be like on our website, then three of those ideas are championed by "judges" and then voted on for the winner.
The reasons for the campaign are as follows:
1. It is biased
The BBC which was established as an impartial news service is known to be biased in favour of liberal world views. This point has been excellently made by Robert Aitken, a former Reporter at the BBC. This begs the question: why should people who do not share the BBC’s world view have to pay to propagate such views?
2. It crowds out the market
The BBC is not the only corporation in the media industry. Other firms have to fiercely compete to raise their income and thus, the fact that the BBC gets a guaranteed source of income gives them an unfair advantage over the other firms.
3. Freedom to Choose
At a time when people are watching less BBC programmes and switching over to digital stations, it is unfair that they are still required to subsidise the BBC.
4. It hits the poor the hardest
At a time when taxes are high and people face mounting bills for fuel and council tax, the poor can hardly afford to pay the licence fee which is about to be raised to £135.45.
Our most recently launched video was a World Without America which has had 160,000 views in the last couple of days and was the most discussed video on YouTube and has been running on American TV networks. Our previous videos on tax, Ken Livingstone and state funding of political parties were featured in various parts of the mainstream media such as Newsnight, BBC news, The Times, Sky, Evening Standard etc etc.
Please check it out and let us know any ideas you have for it!
Cheers
