They've obviously forgotten, or as seems so much in the case of Islamists 'rejected' any form of memory about what actually transpired to 'present' their own version of history.
Since the news carried the threats that emerged from his kidnappers that he would be executed if their demands weren't met, and Johnston had the radio they provided, so was able to hear that, the fact that Abu Zobayer "... I myself sat with him to try to make him feel comfortable and feel that he will be released." would not have given much comfort.
But then these are the inconstitencies that have been the only consistency with these militants, and yet the likes of Johnston and so many other 'journalists' chose to ignore them or else lacked the intelligence to reflect on them.

Yes, I know. Even if he didn't hear it on the radio that threat was ever present, he couldn't be so stupid to believe otherwise. But we do know now, he was treated like a kidnaped king so to speak. If it was another journo so presumptive in his presence yet was not a friend (insane) and was kidnaped, its not likely he would have lived or at least treated so kindly, considering the circumstances.
