In a key speech since taking over as Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu responded to pressure from the US and EU to confirm his willingness to accept the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. This he did but with two critical conditions.
1. That Israel be accepted as a Jewish state.
2. That any Palestinian state would be demilitarised.
The first condition is not new, it was there from the outset when Israel was created, and the one that the UN agreed to at the time. It is the very reason for the inception of Israel following centuries of pogroms and the Holocaust.
The second is understandable considering the violence that has been levelled at Israel from the surrounding territories. If the Palestinian people had peace in their hearts and minds, this condition would not phase them. Could one really expect Israel to allow any future Palestinian state to freely arm themselves knowing the forces that exist there at present?
So how does the BBC report this event? Well in their typical Israel hating mentality that finds nothing that Israel says or does to be positive, they sought the most strigent opposition to Netanyahu's statement, and reported this view in their headline. So we get "Israeli PM 'ruins' peace chance"
If they want to present Mubarak's view of this speech, why not headline 'Egyptian leader continues to reject the Jewish state's right to exist', as this is what it boils down to.
The Arab stance is 'we will accept Israel when it ceases to exist as a Jewish state'. 'It is okay for us to have dozens of Muslim states around the world, but not for Jews.'
Yet the BBC pursues its course like it really believes it's unbiased.

Israeli PM 'ruins' peace chance
Hosni Mubarak held talks with Benjamin Netanyahu in May
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak says an Israeli demand that Palestinians accept Israel as a Jewish state ruins the chances for a peace deal.
The demand was one of two conditions set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he backed the creation of a Palestinian state for the first time.
He also asked that a Palestinian state be demilitarised. Palestinians have rejected the conditions.
