While the views of the independent TV media are voiced here, who clearly have an interest in what the BBC does, they do raise some very valid points for what we should expect from the BBC if they were functioning as they should.

The BBC should spend the licence fee developing "distinctive and innovative" new shows like Strictly Come Dancing and the Great British Bake Off instead of buying shows like The Voice, ITV has said.
Magnus Brooke, director of policy at ITV, said that "it isn't right" that BBC One is crowding out its commercial rivals by chasing ratings and copying their programmes.
He highlighted The Voice, a format which was created by a Dutch production company and has been sold to commercial broadcasters around the world.
Mr Brooke said that the BBC should have spent more developing its own talent show format and bringing on its own talent.
He said: "If you have a licence fee of £3.6billion a year do you develop your own talent show format or do you go and buy one off the shelf which other broadcasters in the UK could have bought themselves?
"It doesn't feel that's the right thing for the BBC to be doing. On BBC One in particular there is an awful lot one would look at and say that is perfectly replicable by the market.
"Is the BBC providing programmes the budgets of which are outside what the commercial sector can afford?
"The Great British Bake off is distinctive and innovative. That's a really good example of what I'm talking about. Unfortunately there are countless other examples - Flog It, Escape to the Country which we have more difficulty with."
He suggested that the corporation should be spending more in areas which are not as well served by the commercial sector, such as radio, religious programming and children's programmes.
Channel 4 said that their afternoon ratings have suffered since BBC One replaced children's programming with more popular shows.
It also criticised the BBC's plans for a "plus one" service, channels which would broadcast the same programming an hour later.
Dan Brooke, chief marketing officer at Channel 4, said: "The move of children's programming had a very material impact on the ratings of Channel 4."
