The Commentator is spot on with this.
Top BBC people think it's not Left-wing enough
One of the broadcaster's most high profile figures, Economics Editor Robert Peston, has come right out and (all but) said it: The BBC is not Left-wing enough. Their chickens will come home to roost
Known to anyone who leans even slightly to the Right as the broadcasting arm of the Guardian, the BBC's problems are obviously far deeper than anybody could have imagined.
One of the broadcaster's most high profile figures, Economics Editor Robert Peston, has come right out and (all but) said it: The BBC is not Left-wing enough.
The BBC is apparently in thrall to an agenda set by the Daily Mail and the Telegraph.
In response to a question as to whether he agreed with former BBC business editor Jeff Randall, who like Peter Sissons before him, talked of an institutional "left-wing bias", Peston said that such an analysis was "bollocks".
He then went on to add: "If I'm honest, the BBC's routinely so anxious about being accused of being left-wing, it quite often veers in what you might call a very pro-establishment, rather right-wing direction, so that it's not accused of that."
The establishment in Britain is Right-wing? Good grief. This recalls a thought we had when BBC favourite Polly Toynbee lavished praise upon the BBC last year:
"Because the BBC reflects her own prejudices, she cannot but assume that it must be objective; all the biased opinions being on the other side of the political spectrum."
The heart of the problem with Peston's remarks is that in making them he merely underlines how little attention is paid at the BBC to putting things right. After all, if there isn't a problem to address why get out of bed in the morning over the matter?
One day, their chickens will come home to roost.
