A demonstration in Birmingham, organised by the EDL (English Defence League) against Islamic Extremism, ended up as a riot when a Muslim leader urged his followers to 'vent their feelings' about this demonstration. When I saw this story in The Times under 'Race riot flared after Muslims were urged to confront right-wing protests', and Daily Mail under 'Violent race riot flared after mosque chief urged Muslims to confront right-wing 'English Defence League' protesters ' I was very curious to see how the BBC was going to cover it. They decided instead to 'cover it' up completely, as there's no mention of it. No doubt they woud have had a field day if it had just been these 'right wingers' expressing their distaste for Islamic extremism. But once Muslims were urged to 'get in on the act' any kind of bias was made especially difficult in how to present this story. So they just didn't. 200 protesters involved in a violent riot in the middle of one of UK's biggest cities and no mention of it. How can the BBC get away with this? See No Islamic Evil Hear No Islamic Evil Speak No Islamic Evil

Over on the Biased BBC Blogspot site I came across a reference to the story above the way the BBC covered it. Under the headline Rival protesters clash on streets, I then understood why a search of the BBC site never revealed it. As I had originally imagined, there was no mention that the Muslim leader had urged his followers to attend and vent their feelings, nor even that opposing group were Muslims. How predictable. Just compare versions!
